(29th February 2008) This is one breed of the native banksia - There are a few that only differ slighty the better known but less common have eyes (open seeds) that look like eyes on the flower (the brown furry bit) May Gibb actually wrote a series of stories about them since they actually do look like little men when they have the seeds on them ... But these here don't get the seeds they are named after Joseph Banks the botanist in Captain Cooks ship upon discovering Australia Joseph Banks discovered these among several hundred other plants but these are his namesake.
