Dita999 > (29th February 2008) This is one breed of the native banksia - There are a few that only differ slighty the better known but less common have eyes (open seeds) that look like eyes on the flower (the brown furry bit) May Gibb actually wrote a series of stories about them since they actually do look like little men when they have the seeds on them ... But these here don't get the seeds they are named after Joseph Banks the botanist in Captain Cooks ship upon discovering Australia Joseph Banks discovered these among several hundred other plants but these are his namesake.
Dita999 > (28th February 2008) Couldn't get them on one of the jetties we had a particularly high tide today so the lastest seagrass (the good stuff according to the cockatoo's) was actually all the way up where the sand meets the grass but here are a few there are two types of cockatoo these ones white with a yellow comb on there heads they open the comb when they are excited scared or trying to impress girl cockatoos the comb is about 10 yellow feathers on the head that open up to be a rather impressive type of mo-hawk ... The other type of cockatoo is the black ones they are completely black with a red comb you don't see them as much in built up areas... But these are the cheeky little fellas that live in my area and believe me if you have ever met a cockatoo you know that they are particularly cheeky birds ....
Dita999 > 27th Feb 2008 ~ Where I live we have hundreds (no exaggeration) of these broken down old jetties and boat pully's like I photographed yesterday and a lot of them because they are broken end up under water when the tide is in so they get loaded up with seagrass (as above) we have the stuff by the kilo I swear - the native white cockatoo's love it feed on it every afternoon I am yet to get a decent photo of that (they refuse to sit still and pose - buggers) Anyway this is one of the places they sit and feed this what they eat in the next week it is my aim to actually acvhieve the birds on the old jetty feeding for my daily's Heres Hoping
Dita999 > Another rainy day .... Yet weather aside I still needed a daily photo so back down to the beach I was at Monday and I was having a hard time finding something til this caught my eye (because I see it all the time it didn't occur to me plus I have done it before BUT not for SMUGMUG) anyway it was once used to pull boats in hence the winch in the left hand corner and it would pull the boat up the ramp (in a higher tide of course)of course it is no longer in use hasn't been for many years but I love this rustic looking old stuff (26th Feb 2008)
Dita999 > Rained Buckets today abso;outely poured so I went out to the garden and got one of Mum (hippyfromoz) roses complete with raindrops The photo really does no justice to the simple beauty that is a rose the glistening rain drops on the petals I hope you enjoy it as much as I did ..... (25th February 2008),
Dita999 > Down at one of the many beaches a short walk from my home ... The weather is bad but it is worse up North they had 150ml in about 2hrs resulting in the 3rd flood of the year ...I on the other hand am not complaining about the weather here as we hit 40`C over the weekend so give me rain anytime 24th February 2008
